So you just got your first gas grill—awesome! But now you’re staring at it wondering, “Where do I even start?” Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.

Grilling with gas is easier than you think. Here are 10 super simple tips to help you grill like a pro (even if it’s your very first time).

1.  Preheat the Grill

  • Turn on your grill, set the burners to high, close the lid, and wait about 10–15 minutes.
  • Preheating helps your grill reach the right cooking temperature and makes the grates easier to clean

2.  Clean the Grates Every Time

  • Before and after grilling, use a grill brush to scrub the grates while they’re hot.
  • Clean grates = better flavor and less sticking. It only takes a minute but makes a big difference.

3.  Oil the Grates

  • After preheating and brushing, dip a paper towel in oil, hold it with tongs, and rub it across the grates.
  • This helps prevent food from sticking—especially delicate items like fish or veggies.

4.  Check Your Gas Supply

  • Make sure your propane tank is connected tightly and has enough gas.
  • Shake the tank—if it feels super light, it’s probably close to empty.

5.  Start with Easy Foods

  • Try burgers, sausages, chicken breasts, or veggie skewers your first time.
  • Quick-cooking foods are easier to manage and build your confidence.

6.  Don’t Overcrowd the Grill

  • Place your food with some space in between and leave room to move things around.
  • Too much food at once can lower the heat and mess up the cooking.

7.   Don’t Flip Too Early

  •  Let food cook on one side for a few minutes before flipping—especially steaks and burgers.
  • If you flip it too early, it will cause the food to stick

8.  Use a Meat Thermometer

  • Stick the thermometer into the thickest part of the meat to check for doneness.
  • Guessing leads to dry or undercooked food. A thermometer = perfect results
  • Chicken: 165°F
  • Beef (medium): 140°F
  • Pork: 145°F
  • Fish: 145°F

9.  Let the Meat Rest

  • After taking meat off the grill, let it sit for 5–10 minutes before cutting.
  • This locks in the juices and keeps it tender.

Grilling for the first time can feel a little overwhelming—but it really is just fire + food +

fun. Stick to these 10 simple tips, and you’ll be hosting BBQ nights like a pro in no time.
